Compact sweetheart type, perfect for small spaces. Great tasting heads keep exceptionally well once cut. Can also be used for ‘greens’ when young. For indoor sowing
When February to April.
Where In trays of seed compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 13°C. Seedlings appear 7-21 days.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear.
When large enough transplant 5cm apart in trays. Stand outside for a few days to acclimatise. Transplant to final position 30cm apart. Firm in well.
Harvest June to October.
For outdoor sowing
When March to June.
Where In a prepared seed bed.
How Sow thinly in rows 23cm apart. Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist.
Care When 5-6 leaves have formed transplant to final position 30cm apart. Firm in well. Keep moist and weed free. Protect early sowings with cloches.
Harvest July to October. Avoid diseases such as club root by rotating Brassica crops yearly.
