How to Grow Black Eyed Susan ‘Susie Mix’ from Seed
Sowing Indoors: February to April
Sow seeds indoors into pots filled with quality seed compost. Sow 2 seeds per pot, covering lightly with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and water carefully.
Cover pots with glass, polythene, or a propagator lid and place in a warm position at 20–25°C. Keep compost moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually takes 21–35 days.
Once seedlings appear, remove the cover and grow on at around 15°C. When plants are large enough to handle, pot on into 10 cm pots.
From late May onwards, gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions, avoiding frost. Plant out 25 cm apart in their final flowering position.
Provide a small frame or support over 20 cm pots for plants to climb, or allow them to trail naturally from baskets.
Keep plants well watered and weed-free throughout the growing season.
