A favourite ingredient of Mediterranean food and easy to grow in a greenhouse or large frame. Prolific with large elongated fruits up to 25cm long. For indoor sowing
When January to April.
Where Pots or trays of seed compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 20-25°C. Seedlings appear 14-21 days.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear. Grow on at a minimum of approx. 18°C. When plants reach a height of approx. 15cm transplant to individual pots or cell trays. Transplant to growing position in grow bags or large pots in the greenhouse or cold frame in May. Provide support with canes if necessary. Keep moist and weed free.
Harvest August to October. Spray flowers with a fine water mist to help fruit set.
